By means of its newspapers the General Workers Union is continuing to ignore the declaration by its ex-Consultant, Dr. George Abela, who is interested in contesting for Labour Party Leader. The first time that the Union newspaper mentioned George Abela was in an article today and it is clear that this is an attempt from its end to reply to its exclusive inside stories which MaltaRightNow.com is publishing concerning all that is happening internally in the GWU.
In its reply, GWU attacked media.link Communications and its journalists while stating that it tried to contact them for their feedback. Nevertheless, it results that this is absolutely not the case, and therefore is a lie brought about by GWU and its newspapers. Close sources of the leadership of the Union informed us that it is clear that this is a sure attempt so that GWU will try to take away the attention from its strategy concerning George Abela.
Over the last few days MaltaRightNow.com revealed that there is a lot of anger among Labour supporters and the said members of the GWU for the way in which ex Deputy Labour Party Leader George Abela is once again being treated by the present leadership of the GWU, now that he expressed his interest in submitting his candidature for the Labour Party Leadership. Amongst other things we also revealed how the Administration of the GWU, led by Geitu Mercieca and Tony Zarb, even gave directives to the Editors of the newspapers of the Union and so that any articles or letters in which George Abela is mentioned and all correspondence they receive in which in one way or another reference is made in his name goes through them before publishing it.
The anger among the Labour Party supporters for the way GWU is reacting has continued to increase, more and more so when it is a known fact that the support for George Abela's proposals is growing amongst the majority of members and Labour Party supporters, and even among the members of the GWU, including the same workers of the Union Press. Many of those who spoke to us asked whether all this secrecy from the Union newspaper's end is coming from Geitu Mercieca and Tony Zarb's direct orders, and if the two Editors of the GWU newspapers are puppets in the hands of who has a personal interest in destroying George Abela.
This is not the first time that Editors of the GWU newspapers have been censored from the leadership of the Union. The Editor of the GWU newspaper was suspended from Editor because he did not publish a photo of Tony Zarb where the Union's Secretary General wanted it to be published. In other separate cases, with clear instructions coming from further up the ladder, in the same way other columnists were stopped from writing on the Union newspaper amongst them another ex-Consultant of the GWU, Dr. Carmenu Mifsud Bonnici.
